My sweet friend Bonnie became a Mrs. last weekend and I had the honor of standing by her side as her Matron of Honor! Anna Kardos did an amazing job photographing her wedding, and the day was so beautiful despite the storms because Bonnie & Ryan’s love and commitment to each other shined so bright. I couldn’t let the opportunity pass by without getting some one on one time with Bonnie right before the wedding doing a relaxed bridal shoot and now that she’s finally married I’m so happy to be able to share a few of my favorites from our time together!
It’s hard to sum up how I feel about this girl and her big day, so instead I’ll just share what I wrote out for my MOH speech.
“Rarely do you ever know the big days in your life are going to be the big ones until it’s happening or sometimes even much later. I know now, that one of my “big” days was an ordinary day in Spanish class 14 years ago when some girl was passing notes back and forth with me about Good Charlotte lyrics. Needless to say, Bonnie and I aren’t fluent in Spanish.
I don’t know how everyone else here feels about middle school and high school but it doesn’t really give me the warm and fuzzies. However, the memories I do love to think about from that time almost all included Bonnie. Her friendship has just lasted and proven to be true throughout every season of life, every big day since.
She joined and quit track with me (we only joined for the sweatpants anyway), she would sit next to me at empty lunch tables and cover for me when I was late to class. She’s a soprano but she joined my alto section in chorale just so we both had someone to sit next to. A few times we even turned in one set of answers for assignments, and somehow she still managed to get better grades :). Some teachers even thought we were sisters because we wore matching outfits to school more times than anybody ever should.
Truth is, in a way we are sisters. She was the first person I would call in excitement or tears. We were there for first dances, first kisses, first break ups and everything since and in-between. I remember the first night a few years back when she finally admitted to me that she had feelings for Ryan as more than a friend. I remember telling her, it may sound strange now but I think he could really be “it” – he even met most of the criteria on a list we made for her future husband years back. So we smiled, drinking our margaritas thinking about how God might possibly weave that beautiful story together. Obviously, I was the one that was always right about everything :).
I’m a huge believer in love and the power of marriage and there has just been something even more sweet about seeing Bonnie and Ryan’s relationship develop having been through all of those firsts with her along the way. I knew the hard nights of crying over broken relationships, days praying trying to understand God’s plan and times celebrating how it’s worked out better than we could’ve imagined or planned ourselves.
The Lord has truly been faithful developing both Bonnie and Ryan into amazing and loving human beings. They are loyal, honest, and true, and I’m so excited for all the ways He is going to continue to work through you and your marriage, making you better together than apart, for your good and His glory.
It’s been so special for me to already have been a part of so many big days with you guys and it’s an honor for me to stand next to you today, on one of your biggest days, getting to celebrate the lord’s faithfulness with you and anticipate all the big days still to come.
“When I said – You’re going to be a BRIDE!” All the smiles 🙂
Love you Bonnie Jane! You made the most beautiful bride and I’m so excited for this beautiful next season!! BK
