I met Kelly & Ian at the Tidal Basin in DC just as the sun was set to rise and we got to start our early Wednesday morning with a few tourists, a lot of blossoms, and amazing warm, glowly, light. I’ve lived close to DC almost my whole life and yet I had never actually seen the tidal basin during the Cherry Blossom Festival so I jumped at the chance do an engagement session here with them, and I couldn’t have picked a better couple to adventure in DC with so early in the morning.
Kelly & Ian wanted to mark their engagement with photos in some of the most iconic spots in DC at the Cherry Blossom Festival because it’s a place that has become very special to them from moments they’ve shared together throughout their relationship. From their first date on a bench at one end of the National Mall to Ian proposing at sunrise on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the other end, it was fun to see how their relationship had kind of come full circle around these monuments. Despite having to deal with crazy weather, rescheduling and permits to make this happen, it was so worth it. After seeing where this sweet couple met and fell in love, I’m even more excited to see the beginning of their marriage at Woodlawn Manor this fall. Until then, here are some of my favorite frames from their sunrise session… and yes, I’ll always wake up before the sun to get to see love in this light. <3
