Oh man, what can I say about the BergerKings you guys?! When I got an email in my inbox a year ago from Tyler & Vanessa I was stoked at the possibility of working with such a friendly and fun couple. I mean, who else combines their last names to create the best celebrity couple name of all time (#BergerKings)?!
Tyler grew up in Baltimore and his family has always had a deep connection to the city. His grandfather brewed beer for Natty Boh, and so it was fun to see ways they included Baltimore & Boh symbolism into the wedding as a tribute to the family roots. Vanessa grew up 3,000 miles away in Seattle and I think together they have the perfect mix of east-coast fun and west-coast chill.
They are also insanely creative people and both ended up in New York City to work in media. One of my favorite parts of their reception was one of the best-man speeches was
written performed in the format of the thank you notes segment of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, as a tribute to Tyler’s time working at NBC for shows like the Tonight Show and SNL. I also loved how during the girls toast they had a rule where if anyone cried they had to take a shot of fireball- hilarious. Oh and the ice cream, you can’t forget the ice cream truck!! But back to V&T…
While they were in Brooklyn, their friend Adam set them up on a blind date together. It all came full-circle when Adam was asked to officiate their wedding and marry the two friends he brought together. How cool. A few years later, Tyler proposed on a hike at the gorgeous Joffre Lake in British Columbia (literal dream) and afterward, they took a train ride down to Seattle to see her family.
When I asked them how they wanted their wedding to feel, we talked about the rustic/industrial/boho aesthetic and the creative, laid-back vibe they wanted but the answer I heard the most was “we really want to throw an awesome dance party celebrating our love with the people we love.”
And, oh was it a good party. I’m not saying it was the best reception party ever, but I’m not saying it wasn’t. (itwas).
Not only was it a blast, but this wedding day was filled with so much dang heart that mine could explode thinking about it. Tyler and Vanessa are kind, humble, laid back, and just super fun to be around. I loved getting to see their family and friends just love on these two and celebrate the start of this next new adventure with them.
